SoC Best Practices | IHBT Basics: Orientation and Phase 1

May 1 @ 8:45 am - 4:15 pm
Free

IHBT is an intensive, time-limited behavioral health service for youth with serious emotional disabilities and their families. It is provided in the home, school, and community where the youth lives with the goal of stabilizing behavioral health concerns and safely maintaining the youth in the least restrictive, most normative environment. This is a 3-part series that can be attended in any order. Orientation & Phase 1 focuses on the main components of the IHBT high-fidelity model along with the key techniques and strategies utilized to engage families and complete multidimensional assessments. Phase 2 focuses on resiliency orientation and applications to increase skills, improve relationships, and enhance social support networks. Phase 3 & Special Topics focuses on multisystem collaboration, family team meetings, and case closings with empowerment and celebration. Additionally, a variety of issues unique to IHBT are presented including strategies to support the workforce and unique topics to home-based family treatment. This is an excellent orientation for administrators and program managers, and a must-have start up training for new programs and new workers.

Wraparound SoC | Introduction to Motivational Interviewing for Care Coordinators

May 1 @ 9:00 am - 12:15 pm
Free

Motivational Interviewing is collaborative conversation style that Care Coordinators can use to assist children, youth, and families in identifying their own reasons for and pathways toward change. The skills in Motivational Interviewing can be quite helpful in engaging and assisting kids and families in exploring and even resolving their ambivalence about change. As it is a style of communication built on partnership, it increases opportunities for engagement – and this may be the most vital measure in all supportive roles. If children, youth, and families do not engage with services, the possibilities for supported change are lost. Therefore, the skills that support initial and sustained engagement may be the foundation upon which all supported changes are built. This 3-hour introduction is designed to provide a broad overview of the spirit, concepts and skills of Motivational Interviewing. It is intended to suggest ideas for support professionals about arranging conversations to strengthen a person’s own reasons for and commitment to change. Proficiency in using these skills requires significant time and supported practice investments. While some skills, or thoughts about different ways engaging with others, will be immediately useful, this training is a necessary and introductory first step to more fully incorporating Motivational Interviewing skills in helping relationships.
